MP for Southern Grenadines meets with High Commissioners from Britain and Canada

Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines: The Hon. Terrance Ollivierre MP for the Southern Grenadines, highlighted the need for ongoing support for the Grenadines and the need for further support of the ongoing recovery efforts with deputy High Commissioners from the embassies of Canada and the United Kingdom.

Speaking of his meeting with the commissioners, Representative Ollivierre said: “I highlighted the ongoing plight of residents in the Grenadines who were hit the hardest by Hurricane Beryl and I reinforced the ongoing need to deploy recovery efforts as fast as possible. Homes have been destroyed, including my own, businesses have been closed and school children have been moved away from their community in order to continue their education. The government of SVG must make every effort to resolve these problems as fast as possible”.

He added “I extended the thanks of my people for the aid provided by Canada and the UK and had the opportunity to show them around the island to discuss with victims the lasting effects being felt by the Hurricane. It is right that for developed countries meet their responsibilities to reduce the impact of global climate change, the disastrous effects of which are being felt by developing small island nations such as ours”.

The New Democratic Party continues to send to supplies to assist those affected by Hurricane Beryl and will be maintaining our work to ensure the government spends the funds allocated to them for Hurricane recovery in a more timely manner.
